In 1888, Wichita teamster Charles Mahaney assumed ownership of the St. Louis Roofing Company in lieu of payment for services rendered to the business. He renamed the company The Charles E. Mahaney Roofing Company and put his teams of horses and wagons to work in the roofing trade.

The 1920's and 1930's were years of growth for Wichita as the city paved roads and erected buildings. Mahaney applied the original roofs to many structures in the city including such landmarks as Wichita East High School, Cessna Aircraft Company, and The Coleman Company, Inc. To cope with the economic downfall created by The Great Depression, Mahaney widened its service area to Oklahoma, Missouri, Nebraska and western Kansas.
With the onset of World War II, Mahaney once again concentrated its efforts in Wichita. One of its largest projects was roofing the quickly expanding facilities at the Boeing Airplane Company. Growth continued for Mahaney Roofing during the post-war period as Wichita's economy soared, bolstered by light aircraft manufacturing.

The complexities of today's hi-tech world necessitate an acute understanding of new roofing compounds, chemicals, and applications. Mahaney Roofing participates in manufacturer's seminars, conferences and training sessions to ensure all employees thoroughly understand application techniques and exercise safety in all aspects of the their jobs.
Mahaney Roofing's strength and future rest in large part with its employees. Many of them have been employed at Mahaney over 20 years. Another internal strength is the company's equipment and truck fleet which are maintained and upgraded regularly. Administrative strength is demonstrated through frequent policy and operation reviews to better ensure optimum usage of labor, materials, and capital. Mahaney is a member of the National Roofing Contractors Association (NRCA); the Wichita Chamber of Commerce, and the Wichita Area Builders Association (WABA).
